July 2017 Beauty Heroes: Josh Rosebrook

July 27, 2017

My July Beauty Heroes box arrived in the thick of the summer heat, which was fitting as the hero product is a facial sunscreen. I was excited to find that the brand featured this month is none other than Josh Rosebrook. I have tried some of Josh’s haircare in the past, and was actually introduced to his skincare through my very first Beauty Heroes Box last year.

This brings me to some big news: this will be my last Beauty Heroes Box. After much thought, I have decided to take a hiatus from my Beauty Heroes subscription to give myself time to use up some of the products I have received over time. I of course enjoy getting to try new brands and beauty items (especially at such a great price!), but I also want to be mindful of how much I am collecting. Currently, if I continue receiving Beauty Heroes boxes I will have more products than I can reasonably use up before they expire. This is not to say that I have sworn off Beauty Heroes forever. I appreciate the careful attention put into curating each box, and the value is phenomenal! But I need to take a break for now. I am also excited to have a little extra time to post about other topics since I will not be writing Beauty Heroes reviews (p.s. if there’s a specific topic you would like me to cover, leave me a comment below!).

Knowing this, I was thrilled to find that the brand featured in my first Beauty Heroes box is also the brand featured in my last. Cheers, Josh Rosebrook!

If you aren’t familiar with Beauty Heroes, it is a luxury green beauty box which features one full-sized ‘hero’ product and one ‘sidekick’ product each month. You can check it out more here.

The hero product this month is the full-sized (2 oz) Nutrient Day Cream Spf 30, which retails for $85, and the sidekick is a mini (.5 oz) Vital Balm Cream, which retails for $30. The total value for this box is $115, which makes the $38 monthly fee a pretty great deal.

Nutrient Day Cream

I tested this out immediately, as I have been spending a lot of time outdoors and at the pool with my son recently. The texture is perfect for a daytime moisturizer. It is a white cream with light to medium thickness and that signature Josh Rosebrook herbal vanilla-ish  scent. Included in the cream are aloe, shea butter, broccoli seed oil, sea buckthorn, green tea, dandelion, calendula, and chamomile, just to name a few. These work to hydrate, protect, calm, repair, and brighten the skin, while offering sun protection via non-nano zinc oxide.

As per the instructions, I apply 2-3 pumps of product to my face. This cream blends in very easily and leaves my face moisturized, with no visible white cast. I find that it helps to create a smooth, and not at all greasy, canvas for makeup. The instructions say to re-apply every two hours, which I have not done as I wear makeup most days. So far I have been very happy with this as it sits well under makeup, and I have not experienced sun damage or any sunburn on my face since using it.

Vital Balm Cream

This is just about everything I could hope for in a balm cream. It takes moisturization and hydration to a new level for my face. The texture is a creamy, almost mousse-like consistency that leaves a silky finish to the skin. Included in the ingredients are aloe, avocado, blue tansy, turmeric, borage, calendula, dandelion, jojoba, honey, lavender, marshmallow, rose, as well as the moisture-binding Indian Senna Seed, which is also referred to as a ’botanical hyaluronic acid.’

A few weeks ago I wound up with a deep scrape on my nose, which eventually turned into a thick scab. (For those wondering how it happened, it is the most boring story ever. I am clumsy. It was late at night. I went to scratch my face, miscalculated the angle, and my fingernail sliced a chunk of skin off my nose. Ugh.) I would dab this blue-tinted cream onto the scrape every evening, and let it soak into my skin overnight. It worked wonders to hydrate and repair my skin, and now the spot is barely visible. I truly don’t know if I can live without it once this jar is gone.

If you received the July Beauty Heroes box, what did you think?
